AUGUST 20, 2009

The revised build log has started with the arrival of key parts. As was discussed in the send off, the biggest change will be the increased power available for this version. 40x 400v 3900uf capacitors will be used, giving 12480 joules. Also received are 8x NdFeB magnets, each 2" x 2" x 1", grade N50. (Unfortunately these were later tested these to be N35.  Darn scammers...)  I plan on using these for a permanent magnet augmented gun, the strength of these are closely matched with the power of the new bank. These where given to me by Daniel Villageliu, along with a silver plating powder, aluminum for the bus bars, copper for some rails, and some acrylic.

Pic 3)  The injector was also given a makeover. A pressure sensor was added, and a external circuit was made to trigger at 50PSI. A external tank, with flow choked, allowed remains in the railgun bore to be blown out. The air exhausts for 1-2 seconds after the shot.

Pic 4) A solenoid was made to allow remote triggering of the railgun.

Today I calculated the capacitance of each capacitor, using the RC time constant. Average capacitance was 3,727 µf, and total was 149,077 µf. This gives a bank energy of 11,926 joules at 400 volts. Bus bar drilling plans were also made.

I made a change to the permanent magnet augmentation plan, and cut the bullet resistant glass. (Thanks Jimmy)
